William Hill Reviews Advertising Due To UK Legislation

One of UK’s largest bookmakers William Hill are to re-evaluate their Media planning and buying due to strict UK compliance.The Governace for William Hill will re-evaluate how they plan their media and buying strategy, which is currently being managed by Vizeum UK.Having worked alongside William Hill since 2011, Vizeum UK  are looking at pitching again for the multi £ account with William Hill.

‘Code For Socially Responsible Gambling’

The Industry Group For Responsible Gambling (IGRG) who announced late last year that companies must enforce the ‘Code For Socially Responsible Gambling’, this is one of the main driving forces behind William Hills decision to re-evaluate there Media presence in the UK.In July 2019, all TV betting ads will be banned before the (9pm) pre-watershed on all live sports, with the only exception being greyhound racing and horse racing.With the rise in gambling related problems in the UK, the Government have been putting increasing pressure on betting companies to do more. With the shock announcement last year that FOBT’s will see the maximum stake being cut from £100 to £2 in April 2019, the Government are implementing tougher rules on gambling companies as a whole, including online gambling.

Restructure

William Hill restructured it’s senior marketing leadership back in 2018, appointing Charlotte Emery as it’s Global Brand and Marketing Director. After the watershed, it is to be implemented that only one betting or gambling ad to be aired per ad break.William Hill are the first UK bookmaker to review their media strategy and will see others follow suit in the near future.
