Gambling adverts and sponsorship in sport and especially football is becoming quite the controversial talking point at the moment, but that isn’t stopping more gambling companies inking agreements with high-profile football clubs. The latest deal is between 1xBet and Tottenham Hotspur, and will see an advertising presence for the company at White Hart Line following a long-term agreement for 1xBet to become Spurs’ Official Betting Partner for Africa.
Issues
There is a little bit of a problem with this deal, as there have been widely reported issues with the newly revamped stadium that Tottenham Hotspur should have been playing in from the start of this season. However, this does mean that even more eyes will be on the stadium when it is eventually ready for use, which is probably good news for advertisers.
The deal
As a result of the new agreement, 1xBet will get coverage of all Spurs’ home matches and advertising presence in the stadium, and on the club’s website and digital channels.A huge African fanbase already exists, with a reported 100 million followed on the continent and Supporters clubs set up and running in various countries including Nigeria and South Africa. It is a sensible addition to 1xBet’s sponsorships, as they are already involved with the CAF African Nations Cup as well as the Nigerian Football Association (NFA).Speaking of the deal, Fran Jones, Head of Partnership at Tottenham Hotspur, said:“We are delighted to welcome 1xBet to the Tottenham Hotspur partner family and look forward to working with them to engage with and grow our African fan base.”Eugene Kiryukhin of 1xBet added:“We are thrilled to sign with Tottenham Hotspur, they have impressed us with their vision for the future, their players, their new stadium and we are committed to helping each other grow in Africa. We look forward to working alongside and supporting them.”
