Kiron Interactive

Normally, when examining a software developer for the iGaming world, you will find the focus is either on everything, or on slots.

With the competitive nature of the industry, most developers are, by this point, attempting to spread themselves as wide as possible in order to benefit from various parts of the industry.

There are some developers who focus mainly on one game type, as the rising popularity of slots, and the opportunities offered by new technological steps forward such as HTML5, 3D slots, and even virtual reality, give a lot of scope.

However, there’s an exception to every rule, and in the iGaming world, that exception is South African virtual sports experts, Kiron Interactive.

Considered by pretty much everyone in the industry as the Godfathers of virtual sports games, Kiron have been around since way back in 2001, and they have very much made the game category their own during that time.

Pioneer

Not only content with the online gaming market, Kiron also offer their state-of-the-art virtual sports games to various land-based casinos.

With under 50 employees across their offices in Johannesburg, South Africa, and London, England, this is a tight-knit group of developers and designers, who are clearly dedicated to producing unique, innovative, and genre defining games, and they’ve done an incredible job of it.

Recently, Kiron have tried their hand at other game categories to test the waters a little, but it’s clear where the preference, and indeed their skills lie.

Third-Party Games

To diversify the options they have available on their platform, Kiron include several games from third-party providers such as EveryMatrix, Fluid Games, and VIP.

It isn’t only one way that this works either, as a deal between Kiron Interactive and Microgaming means that Kiron’s games are available on the popular Microgaming Quickfire platform.

The Microgaming deal was struck in 2015, and during the same year Kiron also began a partnership with Mediatech Solution, which saw Kiron’s games become available on the IRIS platform, a useful addition for Kiron as IRIS is widely used in Asian markets.

Games

When discussing the games available from Kiron, it is necessary to start with the Turfmaster, arguably the most well-known and the most popular product from the developer.

Turfmaster was the turning point for virtual horseracing games, and the popularity of the genre now can be traced back to this title which sees players able to train horses or manage stables as well as racing.

Dashing Derby is an instant win game that also focuses on horse racing, while Platinum Hounds is an instant win dog racing game.

Other virtual sports titles cover archery, badminton, cycling, table tennis, and a host more popular sports.

Kiron have also added Keno games to their collection, with draws every four minutes, these titles have proved popular with fans of the game type.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see other game categories come from Kiron in the near future, but their passion, and their greatest talent, will always lie with virtual sports games.

Matthew Kennedy
Co-founder & Technical Director at Play Cash Games

Matthew Kennedy co-founded Take Marketing Limited in 2008 alongside Becky Mosley and has worked in the UK online gambling industry ever since. He runs the technical side of the operation, building and maintaining the platforms that power Play Cash Games and the wider Take Marketing portfolio.

Matt's role is hands-on. He writes the code behind the offer feeds, the comparison tools readers use, and the back-office systems that keep every casino listing accurate and current. If you have used a feature on this site, the chances are he built it. He is also responsible for site performance, mobile usability, and the technical SEO that lets a small independent comparison site compete with much larger publishers.

Over 17 years in the industry, Matt has worked directly with affiliate platforms, casino operators, and software providers. He has seen the market move from desktop Flash slots to mobile-first HTML5, lived through every iteration of UK Gambling Commission rules, and built the systems that keep our coverage compliant as regulation evolves. He has a particular interest in responsible gambling tooling and player-fund safety — the parts of the industry most people do not see but that matter most.

Matt is a Companies House registered director (Take Marketing Limited, company no. 07619813) and is based in Lincolnshire, England.
