Betfred, a leading UK bookmaker, has officially reopened its headquarters in Birchwood, Warrington, after a comprehensive multi-million-pound refurbishment. The Spectrum building now functions as a modern workspace for over 450 employees, marking a significant milestone in the company’s development.

The grand re-opening ceremony, held on November 22, 2024, was attended by Betfred founder Fred Done and the Speaker of the House of Commons, Sir Lindsay Hoyle. Hoyle is the President of the Rugby Football League. The event highlights Betfred’s lasting commitment to rugby league, where it is a principal sponsor.

A Word from Betfred Founder Fred Done

Fred Done expressed his pride in the newly renovated headquarters, stating:

“Reopening our Spectrum HQ is a very proud moment for me and my family. We’ve come a long way since having one shop in Salford in 1967, and I’m delighted that because of our close association with Rugby League, Sir Lindsay Hoyle has kindly agreed to officially open the building.”

The Spectrum building spans 50,000 square feet. It has a rich history as a venue for concerts by artists like Status Quo, New Order, and Atomic Kitten. Betfred occupied the site in 2004 and began the ambitious refurbishment project in September 2021.

Joanne Whittaker, Betfred’s CEO, highlighted the significance of the redesign:

“The reopening of the Spectrum marks a fresh chapter for us. This redesign is more than just a new look – it’s about building an inspiring, collaborative environment that reflects our bold ambitions.”

New Nifty 50 Studio

A major addition is a new state-of-the-art ‘Nifty 50’ studio. The studio is dedicated to Betfred’s numbers game, which has a maximum win of £5 million. Furthermore, the ‘Immersion Tunnel,’ which is an arena-inspired space, not only highlights Betfred’s history but also creates an engaging experience for both employees and visitors. Additionally, this immersive environment encourages interaction and fosters a deeper appreciation of the company’s journey. As a result, it serves as a dynamic hub for learning and inspiration.

Betfred’s Head of Asset Management, Peter Buckles, and Senior Project Manager, Helen Haworth, managed the refurbishment. Domis Construction carried out the work, while Jackson Downes managed the interior design. Moreover, the project honoured the building’s historical significance while also incorporating modern amenities. As a result, it successfully blended the old with the new, creating a harmonious environment.

Betfred’s commitment to the North West region remains steadfast. The Spectrum HQ is the central hub, with satellite offices located in Manchester city centre, Media City in Salford, Gibraltar, the US, and South Africa.

The investment in the Warrington headquarters reflects Betfred’s dedication to fostering a dynamic work environment and its ongoing support for the local community and the broader North West region.
