Khanawake License

A number of different types of licence are available in the Khanawake jurisdiction. The main two are the Client Provider Authorisation and the Inter-Jurisdictional Authorisation. The former permits licensees to offer interactive gaming services such as casinos and sports betting. The latter is for companies licensed in another jurisdiction that wish to move some or all of their operations into the area.

Hosting

To be granted a licence in the Khanawake jurisdiction, companies must be hosted at Mohawk Internet Technologies, a data centre located within the Mohawk Territory that is the only authorised hosting facility in Khanawake.

Fees

Before licence applications are processed a fee must be paid. This covers the cost of processing the application as well as the first annual licensing fee, which can be refunded if the application is not successful. For a Client Provider Authorisation the fee is 35,000 US Dollars while the Inter-Jurisdictional Authorisation incurs a fee of 10,000 US Dollars. An annual fee of $20,000 for the CPA licence or $10,000 for the IJA licence is also charged. CPA licences have to be renewed every five years with a renewal fee of $5,000.

Fairness Requirements

In order to obtain a licence from the Khanawake Gaming Commission, gaming operators must be able to prove that their games are random and fair. In fact, during the application process, testing is conducted by a third party organisation affiliated with the Khanawake Gaming Commission to ensure fair play. After being issued a licence, companies must still be able to prove the fairness of their games or they risk having the licence revoked.

Current Licensees

As the Mohawk Territory of Khanawake is so popular with casino operators, there is always the risk that some fraudulent sites may display a false seal from the Commission. To help combat this, the Kahnawake Gambling Commission has a list of all genuine licence holders on its site. If players come across a site claiming to be licensed by the Commission, they can easily check it's authentic by visiting the site.

Players

Khanawake Gambling Commission strives to place primary focus on the players. This means that gambling operators have to meet strict standards regarding timely payouts and the confidentiality of customers' personal and financial details. Rules of play have to be clearly displayed on websites and no terms or conditions that the Commission deems to be 'unfair or unreasonable' are permitted. The Commission employs a Dispute Resolution Officer who ensures all complaints are handled in a timely fashion and reach a reasonable conclusion. In the first instance disputes should be raised to the gambling operator but if this does not achieve a satisfactory result or the complaint is more serious then the Khanawake Gambling Commission will get involved.

Matthew Kennedy
Co-founder & Technical Director at Play Cash Games

Matthew Kennedy co-founded Take Marketing Limited in 2008 alongside Becky Mosley and has worked in the UK online gambling industry ever since. He runs the technical side of the operation, building and maintaining the platforms that power Play Cash Games and the wider Take Marketing portfolio.

Matt's role is hands-on. He writes the code behind the offer feeds, the comparison tools readers use, and the back-office systems that keep every casino listing accurate and current. If you have used a feature on this site, the chances are he built it. He is also responsible for site performance, mobile usability, and the technical SEO that lets a small independent comparison site compete with much larger publishers.

Over 17 years in the industry, Matt has worked directly with affiliate platforms, casino operators, and software providers. He has seen the market move from desktop Flash slots to mobile-first HTML5, lived through every iteration of UK Gambling Commission rules, and built the systems that keep our coverage compliant as regulation evolves. He has a particular interest in responsible gambling tooling and player-fund safety — the parts of the industry most people do not see but that matter most.

Matt is a Companies House registered director (Take Marketing Limited, company no. 07619813) and is based in Lincolnshire, England.
